The Bruce Hutchison Branch was built in 1993 as part of the Saanich Commonwealth Place Recreation Centre and it opened its doors in October 1994. The Branch was named after Bruce Hutchison, a well-known author and long-time Saanich resident; he died in 1992. The Branch was designed by Advanced Architects Limited and built by Campbell Construction. It has 9,196 square feet including a program room for 40 people shared by Commonwealth Place.
